BIAE Promotes Transgender Education

On July 16th July the British Institute of Electrolysis held another successful Transgender training course for  both members and non- members.

Candidates came from Eire, Northern Ireland and all across England to attend the event at East Kent College, Broadstairs and made full use of the fantastic facilities.

The day involved learning how to approach permanent hair removal for Transgender clients prior to Gender Reassignment Surgery - specifically by treating various donor sites for both male to female patients and female to male patients. Attendees were also given information on the process of becoming an NHS provider. The day comprised of underpinning knowledge theory in the morning, followed by a delicious lunch, then a practical session working on members of the local Transgender community group.

The course was run by Angela Wheat and Mandy Painting, both previous chairs of the BIAE who have extensive experience as trainers and Electrolysists; and treat Transgender patients in their respective clinics daily. Angela said “It was a pleasure & a delight to be able share our knowledge and experience with such passionate and professional Electrolysists. This course has been a great example of how Continuous Professional Development works to encourage best practices and enhance the professionals’ knowledge.”

This was a hugely successful event, with fantastic feedback from both candidates and patients. Due to high demand, another course is being considered for the near future. Please register your interest at sec@electrolysis.co.uk
